Drywall Process at All American Colors

We have fine tuned our process for installing and finishing drywall to ensure that our contractors provide the highest quality results that will last for years. Our staff of experienced drywallers are ready to work on demand, anywhere in the Chicago area and beyond. Remember that we're always willing to make adjustments to our process to meet your job's specifications.

Application of Sheetrock (US Gypsum Board)
We use 5/8" or 1/2" Sheetrock panels, depending on the requirements. In high moisture areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, our contractors apply water resistant greenboard and/or Durock (concrete board). Each individual board is both glued and screwed with 1 5/8" screws to the wall framing material for maximum durability and smooth appearance.

Corner Bead Installation
Once all boards are installed, we apply corner bead to all outside corners. Our contractors then backfill all screws, holes and gaps, then prefill all seams with Durabond 90.

Taping
After the corner bead is installed, we apply USG paper tape to all seams and corners. Our contractors then follow that with two coats of joint compound applied with precision Ames tools. Then a third coat is applied by hand to ensure a proper finish that's ready for priming. All necessary surfaces are then sanded and touched up. We follow this by scheduling a walk-though with our client for final approval.

Painting Process at All American Colors

All American Colors adheres to a detail-oriented painting process that consistently produces the highest quality results. Our staff of experienced painters are ready to work on demand, anywhere in the Chicago area and beyond. Remember that we're always willing to make adjustments to our process to meet your job's specifications.

Identification and Repair of Flaws
We begin with an onsite inspection of all drywall, looking for flaws such as nailpops, screwpops, cracks and broken corner beads. Once we identify the flaws, our contractors make all necessary repairs to fix the imperfections before we apply any paint.

Prepping for Primer
We then do any spackling, sanding, and cleaning that's needed. All wood items will be sanded and cleaned before they are primed. Any items and surfaces that will not be painted are covered and protected with tape, plastic, paper and dropcloths.

Prime Coat
A prime coat is applied, which is sprayed and backrolled for a smooth, even finish.

Finish Coat
In the final step, we apply a finish coat which is rolled for a smooth, even finish. All doors and trim are sprayed for an optimal finish. Once this coat has dried, our contractors touch up any missed areas or imperfections. A second finish coat may be applied if required by the specifications. When the last step is complete, we schedule a walk-though with our client for final approval.

Custom Finish
Our specialty painter decides which tools are needed (i.e., stencil, brush, sponge, cloth, etc.) to apply the desired finish. A custom finish may require the use of several paint colors, coats or techniques. When the design process is done, a latex sealant may be applied for maximum durability and protection. After the custom finish is complete, we schedule a walk-though with our client for final approval.
